Peggy McGuire begins her 14th season as an assistant Girls Track & Field coach at Iowa City West High.
She has also been an assistant Girls Cross Country coach at West for 13 years. McGuire has played a vital role in helping
lead 9 Iowa City West High teams to state titles, 6 in track & field and 3 in cross country. McGuire has been instrumental
in the growth, development and success of West High track & field working with all event groups. She is recognized as
one of the top coaches in the state having won the 2010 IATC Assistant Girls Track & Field coach of the year for the state
of Iowa. McGuire also won the 2005 Assistant Coach of the Year by the IATC for cross country. Her expertise is utilized even
beyond the West High program. Coach McGuire has played an important role within the Iowa Association of Track Coaches for
years in areas such as state rankings, media releases, All-Academic chair and website editor as well as many others.
Coach McGuire currently works at Iowa City West High School as a Paraeducator.
As an accomplished athlete herself, Coach McGuire was an outstanding sprinter at Centerville High School.
McGuire was a two time track & field State Champion, winning the 100 Meters in 1986 and again in 1988 and was the runner-up
in 1987, being undefeated in the 100 meters her senior year. In 1996 she was inducted into the Centerville Hall of Fame for
her accomplishments in athletics. After high school she went on to run for the University of Iowa.
McGuire is a Level I certified coach with USATF, a member of the Iowa Association of Track Coaches and USA
Track & Field and the National Federation of High School Coaches Association.
