West girls stand out at weekend track meet

West High's girls placed in the top six in 13 of 14 events Saturday at the University of Iowa indoor track meet.

Among the eight top-three finishes by the Women of Troy were event victories by Sarah Wickman in the 1,500 meters (5 minutes, 4.92 seconds) and Danica Haight in the shot put (42 feet, ¼ inch).

Janet Dobyns was second in the 3,000, and Alison Dirks was second in the high jump.

Johnson in the 60, the 4x200 relay (Johnson, Q Qui, Ally Weaver, Lisa Mellecker), Claire Hall in the 800 and the 4x400 team (Annie McAleer, Hadiza Sa-Aadu, Steph Mount, Naomi Hillsman) all finished third.

1,500 -- 1. Sarah Wickman 5:04.92.

4x400 -- 3. West High (Annie McAleer, Sa-Aadu, Steph Mount, Naomi Hillsman) 4:14.43.

High jump -- 2. Alison Dirks 5-3; 4. Cae Lamb 5-2.

Long jump -- 5. Johnson 15-6.

Shot put -- 1. Danica Haight 42-0¼.
