IOWA CITY WEST
2002 state finish -- 2nd, Class 3A
Returning state placewinners -- Robdu Adam, sr. (2nd, 3,000); Janet Dobyns, soph. (6th, 1,500; 1st, 3,200 relay); Lynn Dobyns, sr. (1st, 1,600 relay; 1st, 3,200 relay; 2nd, distance medley relay); Julia Frudden, soph. (1st, 3,200 relay); Liz Huntley, jr. (2nd, distance medley relay); Kristin Jacobs, sr. (1st, 1,600 relay); Amanda Judisch, jr. (2nd, distance medley relay); Nicole Novak, jr. (1st, 1,600 relay); Lindsey Windauer, sr. (1st, 1,600 relay; 2nd, distance medley relay).
Outlook -- West's two-year reign atop Class 3A ended last year. The Women of Troy return 20 letter-winners, including nine state place-winners, in an attempt to regain the crown. West will be extremely strong from 400 meters to 3,000. If West is to unseat City High, it must get more individual points to go with its strong middle- and long-distance relays. Quotable -- "We're proud of what we've established here. Last year was a tough year, and we don't want to settle for second-best. We're going to contend. We've got the kids who can do that." -- Coach Mike Parker
